Information and resources for volunteer tutors

Tutors of Literacy in the Commonwealth (TLC) is part of the revised professional development system serving Pennsylvania’s adult education field. TLC’s focus is to increase adult learner gains by providing volunteer instructors with quality professional development opportunities and resources.  As PA’s adult education professional development system evolves, TLC’s goal is to provide services that not only meet the needs of volunteer instructors and classroom aides, but that also demonstrate the effectiveness of both the instructors and the professional development opportunities supported by TLC.  All adult learners involved will benefit when TLC works with agencies to provide volunteer instructors with professional development opportunities that build on previous knowledge, deepen content knowledge, support peer interactions, focus on individual needs, and continuously provide support.  TLC plans to help agencies to identify and address site-specific goals which, when addressed, will allow the program to better meet the needs of their clients – the adult learners.   If you would like to work with TLC to develop or support the use of volunteer instructors and classroom aides in your agency, contact Kim Roush.
