Technology Planning Webinars

Throughout program year 202021, the Distance Education Technical Assistance Project offered a series of webinars to support agencies in identifying priorities for technology planning. Each webinar focused on specific areas to improve through the use of technology. A link to each recorded webinar can be found below.

Friday Lunchtime Webinars

Throughout the 2021-22 program year, the Professional Development System will offer lunchtime webinars for agencies’ PDE-funded staff. While topics are targeted to specific program roles, all PDE-funded staff are welcome to attend. The In House Professional Development Specialist webinar, held on the second Friday of each month, is required for all IHPDS. The webinars will begin Friday, September 3, 2021, and run through June 10, 2022, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, except holidays.

ANI Statewide Virtual PLC

The goal of this year-long professional learning community (PLC) is to support math teachers in delivering high-quality math activities aligned with the skills introduced in the Adult Numeracy Institute (ANI), with a focus on assignments, student work, and assessment. After each statewide virtual PLC meeting, participants will work together at their agencies to:

1) Implement ANI CCRS-aligned lessons developed during the 20-21 ANI Statewide Virtual PLC,

2) Collect student work samples, and

3) Make changes to assignments.

During the virtual PLC meetings, members will share assignments and student work with their peers across the state and work together in breakout rooms to conduct the CCRS Student Work Protocol.

English Language Proficiency Standards Virtual PLC

The goal of this year-long professional learning community (PLC) is to support ESL instructors in revising and implementing enhancement activities aligned to the skills within chosen English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS). The facilitators will model an adapted version of the CCRS Lesson Revision process to revise enhancement activities and develop strategies for implementation during the first PLC meeting. Participants will teach lessons with revised enhancement activities between meetings. Participants will also have the opportunity to complete the peer observation process with instructors from other agencies using the Peer Observation Tool from the ELPS institute.

IELCE Virtual PLC

The goal of this yearlong professional learning community (PLC) is to support Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) instructors in enhancing and implementing contextualized IELCE lesson plans. The facilitators will model activities to enhance lessons, and participants will evaluate lessons using an
IELCE Lesson Plan Rubric. Participants will add enhancement activities to their IELCE lesson plans between virtual PLC meetings and teach the lessons in their face-to-face or virtual classrooms. Participants will have the opportunity to share and reflect on lesson activities with other IELCE instructors from agencies across the state.

PE/ILA Statewide Virtual PLC

The goal of this yearlong professional learning community (PLC) is to support family literacy teachers in developing CCRS-aligned, integrated lessons for parent education and interactive literacy activities (ILA). Participants will work together at their agencies to complete three projects:

1) review and revise their PE and ILA lesson from last program year using a Lesson Alignment Checklist;

2) implement another agency’s CCRS-aligned parent education and ILA lesson and provide feedback; and

3) develop and implement a new CCRS-aligned parent education and ILA lesson.

Participants will have the opportunity to review their lessons with peers and submit original lessons for possible inclusion in the PA Adult Education Resources Lesson Bank. Participants will also be introduced to the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (Birth to Five) and PA Learning Standards for Early Childhood to support alignment.

STAR Statewide Virtual PLC

This year-long virtual professional learning community (PLC) will focus on sustaining Student Achievement in Reading (STAR) implementation. STAR instructors and coaches will support each other in continued implementation of evidence-based reading instruction (EBRI) through discussion, activities, and reflection. Topics for the PLC meetings will include STAR instructional routines, monitoring student progress, aligning STAR lessons to the CCRS, and peer observation of STAR lessons.
